~The 7 Stages Of Mustang Gentling~

Stage 1: Preparation & Familiarization

Welcome to the get ready and get prepared week! This week is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to succeed in this course. We're going to share our tried-and-true methods for keeping our mustangs healthy and happy. Plus we do a deep dive into terminology and the science behind what you will be learning. As you navigate through this course, you'll gain the confidence and skills to manage wild mustangs. Let's start this enriching journey together!

Stage 2: First Touch & Starting +R (Positive Reinforcement)

Welcome to a stage filled with exhilarating FIRSTS that will spark a fire in your soul! Imagine the thrill of that first touch, the first time slipping on a halter (if it hasn't been done yet) - these are moments that will etch themselves into your memory forever. You'll master the art of training to follow a feel, taking those crucial initial steps to prevent bolting. But that's not all! You'll also begin to weave in +R (Positive Reinforcement) training, a powerful tool that will turbocharge your results! This is more than just a stage - it's the beginning of a transformative journey. 

Stage 3: Catching, Leading & Lunging, Desensitizing and Starting Target Training (+R)

This stage is composed of interconnected lessons, each one building upon the previous, creating a comprehensive learning experience. It's normal to feel overwhelmed at this point, but don't worry! We're here to guide you, breaking down complex concepts into manageable parts, making the learning process enjoyable and achievable. In the +R section, we'll dive into the practical world of target training. This technique will become a valuable asset throughout your horse training journey. So, let's approach this stage with curiosity and eagerness, ready to embrace the transformative experience ahead.

Stage 4: Advanced Catching & Body Control

In this stage we'll address the topic of when to remove your horse's halter and introduce three practical haltering techniques that make catching your horse easier and safer. We'll also explore the importance of body control - a vital, yet frequently neglected step that promotes safety and focus in your horse. Lastly, we'll guide you on how to integrate +R (Positive Reinforcement) into your training to enhance your success. This stage is designed to deepen your understanding of getting true relaxation while improving your horsemanship skills to further gain your mustang's trust. This gets us closer to developing that bond unique to only mustangs.

Stage 5: Leading Outside, Round Pen Work & Feet

At this stage we are ready to head outside of the pen/round pen! Plus, we'll simplify round pen work, setting a solid foundation for future under saddle training. We'll also tackle the daunting task of handling horse feet safely, ensuring success with the farrier. Finally, we will continue progressing Positive Reinforcement (+R) training for faster, more enjoyable training results. 

Stage 6: Tying Prep, Grooming & Progressing Feet

In this stage, learn everything necessary to prepare your horse to never pull back and be completely comfortable hard tying anywhere. We really get into progressing touching all over and grooming from head to tail safely. Now your wild horse is ready to willingly pick up all four feet and have them cleaned out. This is about the time most (if they haven’t already) really start to enjoy their time with you and being touched. It’s the most heart bursting feeling ever!

Stage 7: Tying, Trailer Loading & Farrier Prep

In this stage your wild horse is ready to hard tie! Then they can be loaded in a trailer easily and learn how to not only lead off the trailer but softly back off the trailer as well. We also go over the final steps to prepare for the first farrier visit and even how to confidently trim your own wild mustang! This is the culmination of one of the most transformative and rewarding experiences in the world.

We Are Isidro & Amber Espinoza

 

We make up Isidro Espinoza Horsemanship and we crafted a blueprint for passionate wild mustang owners to take them from lost, confused, stressed and struggling –to confident, empowered, excited and successful!

This course is a culmination of our life’s work and passion for helping wild mustangs & their people.

 

We both come from a lifetime of working with and training horses. We met in 2005 at one of the largest breeding horse farms in North America. Horses brought us together and we were set on a trajectory to have them infiltrate every part of our lives and beings.

As we started our family we trained our first wild horses in California and fell in love with them. They were unlike any breed we had ever worked with before. This fueled us to become passionate about helping them in any way we could.

 

We participated in every mustang competition and program we could find. To learn more about them, bring awareness to them and help others.

 

But we noticed a huge persistent problem. 

 

People would get stuck and need help but the help wasn’t out there or it was too expensive or too far away for most mustang owners to obtain.

We already made all the mistakes training hundreds of mustangs in the past 15 years. We have honed our skills to be efficient and effective. We have assessed thousands of mustangs from all over the country and really narrowed down what works well for the majority of them and how to do simple changes based on each unique personality to achieve success.

 

Now, I know precisely how to help other passionate wild mustang owners to develop and achieve the partnership they have always dreamed of.

 

And we want to help as many wild mustangs get into and stay in permanent homes as possible. Educating and supporting those amazing homes is the best way to do just that.
